Open your home to four legged (sometimes less, and that’s great too!) brachycephalic foster dogs. And, be greeted with joy, and warm snuggles after a ruff day. Cozy up with your new furry friend and the satisfaction of knowing that you played an integral role in helping this foster dog reach the ultimate forever.
Fostering is a soft-landing spot for dogs that are waiting to find their forever home. As we do not have a shelter facility, our fosters, without a doubt, play one of the most important roles on our dogs’ journeys to finding their forever homes. It is also one of the most rewarding roles. But, it is not for everyone and it doesn’t come without its challenges. That being said, very few rewarding things in life come without challenges!
Because we believe that fostering is one of the most important roles in our team. There is a selection process to becoming a foster, and only strong candidates will be considered. If you want to play a part in a dog’s journey to happiness, and you feel you are up for the challenge, then read-on to find out how you can become a foster!
Fosters are responsible for providing basic care such as food, water and exercise in a loving and nurturing environment. Almost all foster dogs benefit from structure and routine. Believe it or not, unlike their human counterparts, dogs like being told what to do and when to do it. That being said, when necessary, some dogs will require behaviour modification. They will also need to visit the vet and will need you to be their taxi.
As a rescue, we supply all essentials when the companion does not arrive with them. The cost of all vetting requirements will also be covered by For Pete’s Sake. We work with some amazing people and organizations. Some of which act as food banks for rescues. So, depending on your location, food may be supplied as well. P.S. we definitely encourage fosters to spoil their new furry friend!
The first step is to fill out an application so we can find out a little about you and your situation. After a foster application is submitted we will call you to get to know you a bit better and help you understand us as well.
Everyone has their strengths and weaknesses, and each dog has its own specific needs. Not all dogs have behavioural issues, however, it is important to us that our fosters feel well equipped to handle any dog that is in their care. That is to say, please be honest about your experience level when submitting your application. Also, life sometimes throws a curveball at us, and sometimes a foster’s situation may change, and that’s OK too. Just let us know if now is not the right time or if you are not comfortable accepting a dog.
Once we feel it is a good fit for us, you are placed on our approved foster home list and you become part of the team!
Your application is kept on file with For Pete’s Sake for future reference so we can match dogs to your needs or experience level. We will always reference our approved foster homes first, however if we are unable to find a suitable foster home for our companion’s needs we will call out on our social media platforms.
To keep up to date, you can follow us on Instagram and Facebook. Check us out! Not to brag, but we are super fun and we are constantly posting updates on our dogs’ journeys to success and trying to add some warm fuzzies to your day. We look forward to seeing your smiling faces!
